This paper quantifies the power consumption of membrane-based post-combustion carbon capture within waste-to-energy plants, exploring diverse scenarios encompassing CO2 recovery and purity. Input data was provided by a waste-to-energy operator, and calculations were based on a network flow model and mixed-integer programming. A three-stage process seems to be the most reasonablesolution, achieving high CO2 purity (95%) and recovery (90%), additional stages did not lead to significant energy savings. The results show a disproportional reduction in energy consumption with decreasing CO2recovery, which could make the method potentially advantageous for waste-to-energy plants aiming for
carbon neutrality.
