Este artículo presenta un relato de primera mano de los retos a los que se enfrentó al escribir una tesis doctoral sobre el turismo en la España franquista y la República Democrática Alemana, dos dictaduras ideológicamente distintas abordadas desde una perspectiva comparativa y transnacional. Analiza las ventajas y limitaciones de estos enfoques y explora las complejidades de la disponibilidad de fuentes para desvelar las historias de estas dos naciones.

This paper presents a first-hand account of the challenges faced while writing a PhD dissertation on tourism in Franco Spain and the German Democratic Republic, two ideologically distinct dictatorships approached from a comparative and transnational perspective. It discusses the benefits and limitations of these approaches and explores the complexities of source availability in uncovering the histories of these two nations.
