Four variants of SJAs were designed and tested. Two SJAs used common rigid slot nozzles. Considering biomimetic principles, two others SJAs were designed with temporally variable slot nozzles. Three experimental methods were used: phase-locked visualization and optical measurements of oscillating nozzle lips, hot-wire anemometry, and jet momentum flux measurement using a precision scale. The results demonstrate abilities of the bio-inspired SJAs with temporally variable nozzles, because these actuators obtain higher parameters in comparison with similar SJAs with rigid nozzles. Namely, a 12% enhancement of the stagnation point Nusselt number was concluded.
