NMR aerosolomics represents an approach that allows assignment of dozens of individual compounds in each 1H NMR spectrum of complex aerosol mixtures, which is inspired by compound profiling used in NMR metabolomics. The method was used in the analysis of PM2.5 aerosol samples collected at three different rural background sites in Central Europe during summer and winter campaigns and resulted in identification of around 60 compounds throughout the samples. A specific source apportionment method was employed in order to identify the main sources of aerosol particles and provided a four-factor solution.
