Článek se na základě rozsáhlého výzkumu v regionálních archivech zaměřuje na úvodní fázi politické kariéry čelního českého komunistického funkcionáře Miloše Jakeše. Časově je ohraničen jeho vstupem do KSČ v roce 1945 a odchodem do pražského ústředí na podzim 1952. Na Jakešově příkladu se pokouší odpovědět na širší otázky týkající se komunistické strany a jejích funkcionářů v daném období, například jaké byly důvody jejich příklonu ke komunistického hnutí, od čeho se odvíjel jejich další politický vzestup a jak se ve straně legitimizovali. Zohledněním toho, v čem byla zmíněná etapa Jakešovy kariéry specifická a v čem naopak zapadala do širších trendů, se studie pokouší prohloubit poznání toho, jak se utvářely nové elity během etablování diktatury KSČ.

Based on extensive research in regional archives, the paper focuses on the initial phase of the political career of Miloš Jakeš, the leading Czech communist official. It is framed by 1945 when he joined the Communist Party, and the fall of 1952 when he was promoted to Prague. Using Jakeš as an example, it seeks to address broader questions about the Communist Party and its functionaries in the period, such as what were the reasons for their adherence to the Communist movement, what determined their subsequent political rise, and how they legitimized themselves in the party structures. By taking into account in what ways that stage of the career of Jakeš was specific and in what ways, on the contrary, it fitted into broader trends, the study attempts to deepen the existing scholarship on the rise of new elites during the establishment of the Communist Party dictatorship.
