Lo studio di come le antiche civiltà suddividevano lo spazio e il tempo rappresenta un aspetto fondamentale per la ricostruzione della loro vita quotidiana, e il periodo della Terza Dinastia di Ur (nota anche come Ur III, 2112-2004 a.C.) non rappresenta un'eccezione. Fin dalle prime decifrazioni della scrittura cuneiforme e dai primi scavi del XIX secolo, archeologi e filologi del Vicino Oriente antico hanno cercato di ricostruire la metrologia e la suddivisione del tempo degli antichi abitanti della Mesopotamia. Il capitolo presenta una panoramica aggiornata e globale della metrologia e dei calendari durante il periodo Ur III.

The study on how ancient civilizations divided space and time represents a fundamental aspect for the reconstruction of their daily life, and the period of the Third Dynasty of Ur (also know as Ur III, 2112-2004 BC) does not represent an exception. Since the first decipherments of the cuneiform script and the first excavations in the 19th century, archaeologists and philologists of the Ancient Near East have tried to reconstruct the metrology and subdivision of time of the ancient inhabitants of Mesopotamia. The chapter presents an updated and global overview of the metrology and calendars during the Ur III period.
