he mite Varroa destructor and the viruses it transmits are considered the most serious threats to managed western honeybee (Apis mellifera) colonies of European subspecies. In this review we described the life cycle of the Varroa mite, its impact on the honey bee physiology and health, its interaction with viruses and the Varroa management strategies that limit the spread of this parasite.
