This article describes an experiment with an aeroelastic model of a R.C. prestressed footbridge. The real structure has been designed by OBEC Consulting Engineers, Eugene, Oregon with collaboration of Jifi Strasky, Consulting Engineer, Mill Valley, California. The main aim of experiments was determination of the aerodynamic stability with regards to torsional- bending flutter. Another goal of the experiment on aeroelastic footbridge model was to determine critical vortex separation wind speed under various wind attack angle. Also, influence of lower prestressing has been observed. In this article natural modes and frequencies are presented and compared with theoretical values. The surveyed bridge has been found to be aerodynamically stable. The vertical response is under allowable limits.
