Klimatické změny, negativní externality konvenčního zemědělství, multifunkční požadavky na zemědělskou krajinu ze strany ochrany přírody i turistického průmyslu, to vše můžeme označit za hnací síly návratu stromů do zemědělské krajiny. Agrolesnictví se může stát lékem na mnohé ze současných problémů a jeho environmentální přínosy jsou nesporné. Jak se přitom dočteme v historických kapitolách předkládané publikace, kombinace stromů se zemědělským využitím půdy je prastará a stromy ze zemědělské půdy či zemědělské využívání lesů nemizely ani v dobách historicky bližších. Jak by mohlo současné agrolesnictví vypadat v našich zemích, je ožehavá a do určité míry stále ještě experimentální otázka. O odpovědi se prostřednictvím této brožury pokoušejí pracovníci několika ústavů Akademie věd ČR – botanici, entomologové, environmentální historici a etnologové z Botanického, Entomologického a Etnologického ústavu –, ale také krajináři a fytoenergetici z VÚKOZ, v. v. i., a zemědělští a lesní odborníci i sociologové z ČZU a MENDELU.

Climate change, the negative externalities of conventional agriculture, the multifunctional demands on the agricultural landscape from nature conservation and the tourism industry, all these can be described as drivers of the return of trees to the agricultural landscape. Agroforestry can become a cure for many of today's problems, and its environmental benefits are indisputable. As we can read in the historical chapters of the present publication, the combination of trees with agricultural land use is ancient and trees did not disappear from agricultural land or agricultural use of forests even in historically closer times. What contemporary agroforestry could look like in our countries is to some extent, still experimental question. Through this brochure, the staff of several institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic – botanists, entomologists, environmental historians and ethnologists from the Institute of Botany, Entomology and Ethnology – as well as landscape scientists and phytoenergetics from VÚKOZ, v. v. i., and agricultural and forestry experts and sociologists from CULS and MENDELU – are trying to answer the questions.
