The court of Charles IV was in many ways related to the court of his father, John of Luxembourg. Some people even moved from the service of King John to the margraviate court of Charles (IV.), or later directly to the service of King Charles IV. This was particularly the case for foreign advisers and persons whom the Luxembourgers trusted to administer foreign fiefs and newly acquired territories. Many of these foreigners - Italians - had been in the service of Luxembourg for several generations.
