Within the seminar current scientific results from the field of degradation of paintings caused by the so-called saponification of paint layers were presented. This degradation process results from the interaction of pigments with binders. The seminar was focused on the results of fundamental research, especially on the study of chemical reactivity, kinetics and crystal structure of metal soaps and methods of their identification in paintings.
