Literárněhistorický komentář Daniely Iwashity vsazuje spolupráci i polemiky obou pisatelů do souvislosti dalších vztahů, dobových událostí a geneze Demlovy slovesné práce. Sumarizuje různé básníkovy role ve Studiu i Florianovu nezastupitelnou roli ve vývoji Demlova psaní a překládání. Zvláště si všímá staroříšské písařské kultury, pod jejímž vlivem se Demlův rukopis výrazně proměnil, a to umožňuje jednak lépe identifikovat jeho autorský podíl na kolektivní práci, jednak rozšířit představu o jeho vlastních překladech. Rukopisy též vybízejí zkoumat složitou chronologii vzniku jeho textů, která neodpovídá postupu jejich vydávání. Zásadní důsledky pro podobu a chronologii Demlova knižního díla mělo zejména zadržení některých Demlových rukopisů ve Staré Říši po prvním rozchodu s Florianem – část z nich nebyla dodnes publikována ani rozpoznána. Studie se dotýká rovněž Demlovy a Florianovy práce s dopisem jako literární formou a budování společné korespondenční sítě spolupracovníků, čtenářů a mecenášů, které později Deml s Florianem vtahovali i do vzájemných polemik.

The literary-historical commentary by Daniela Iwashita places the cooperation as well as the polemics of Jakub Deml and Josef Florian in the context of other relationships, contemporary events, and Deml’s literary work and its genesis. It summarizes the various roles Deml played in the Studium as well as Florian’s irreplaceable role in the evolution of Deml’s writing and translation work. It focuses especially on the Stará Říše transcription practices which significantly changed Deml’s handwriting. This helps us identify more reliably Deml’s authorial share in the collective output and expands our appreciation of his own translations. The manuscripts also offer the opportunity of re-examining the complex chronology of Deml’s texts’ genesis which does not correspond to the order of publication. The form and chronology of Deml’s published works were substantially affected by the retention of some of Deml’s manuscripts in Stará Říše after his first break-up with Florian – some of these manuscripts have not been published or identified to this day. The study also discusses Deml’s and Florian’s use of the letter as a literary form, and their efforts to build a shared network of collaborators, readers and patrons who were later dragged into their polemics.
