Per fare comprendere la Praga dei Lussemburgo, l’autore fa un passo indietro verso la Praga precedente, ossia verso quella che si andò formando tra il IX e il XIV secolo durante il regno dei principi e dei re della dinastia dei Přemyslidi. Carlo IV si dovette confrontare con questa realtà, traendo da essa l’ispirazione per realizzare l’organizzazione urbana della nuova sede principale del re di Boemia e imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero.

The author demonstrates that for the fundamental understanding of Luxembourg Prague (under Charles IV and Wenceslas IV) it is necessary to return to the Prague under the Přemyslids (early 9th – 1310). During these six centuries, the topography of the future city developed. The main axis was formed by the River Vltava and the routes between two strategic places: Vyšehrad and Prague Castle – the centres of the ecclesiastical and sovereign power.
