V bazální vrstvě rašelinného profilu na lokalitě Pihoviny u Herálce jsme našli dobře zachované rostlinky mechu Meesia uliginosa s.str. datované necelých 14 tisíc let před současností. Tento druh dnes roste ve vyšších nadmořských výškách a u nás se dnes nevyskytuje. Nepodařilo se nám dohledat ani žádný jiný fosilní doklad tohoto druhu vůbec, což činí jeho nálež unikátním.

In the basal layer of the peat profile in Pihoviny (Herálec) in Bohemian-Moravian Highlandsdated to the Late Glacial (ca 14 kyr cal BP) we found the moss well-preserved plants of the moss Meesia uliginosa s.str. Comparison with the literature and macrofossil databases has shown, that it is probably the first fossil evidence at all and thus this find is unique.
