Tento svazek Kontradikcí přehodnocuje socialistické dědictví ve vztahu k přírodě ve světle současné ekologické krize. Historie vztahu mezi socialismem a ekologií nebyla jednoduchá. Marxismus byl často vnímán jako progresivistická doktrína hlásající emancipační potenciál růstu výrobních sil, který byl v Sovětském svazu doveden ještě dále, což vedlo k rychlé industrializaci a katastrofální devastaci přírodního prostředí. Součástí tohoto odkazu však byly i rozsáhlé ekologické iniciativy a neotřelé příspěvky k vědeckému poznání životního prostředí, stejně jako některé hlasy nesouhlasu a návrhy alternativních cest k socialistické budoucnosti. Svazek přináší jak původní studie, tak nové překlady textů, které pokrývají rozmanitost socialistického myšlení o přírodě v teorii i praxi a zahrnují jak historické, tak současné debaty.

This volume of Contradictions reconsiders the socialist legacy in regard to nature in light of the contemporary ecological crisis. The history of the relationship between socialism and ecology has not been an easy one. Marxism was often seen as a progressivist doctrine proclaiming the emancipatory potential of the growth of productive forces, which was taken even further in the Soviet Union, resulting in the rapid industrialisation and catastrophic devastation of the natural environment. However, this legacy also involved large ecological initiatives and novel contributions to the scientific knowledge of the environment, as well as some voices of dissent and suggestions of alternative paths towards a socialist future. The volume presents both original studies and new translations of texts covering the variety of socialist thought about nature in theory and practice, covering both historical and contemporary debates.
