Vláda zastupujícího říšského protektora Reinharda Heydricha v českých zemích, byť jen osmiměsíční, byla, je a zřejmě nadále zůstane nejfrekventovanějším tématem jak protektorátních dějin, tak českého domácího a československého zahraničního protinacistického odboje. Zůstane ale i jedinečnou součástí evropské rezistence za druhé světové války, neboť Heydrichova smrt 4. června 1942 znamenala nečekaný klín do zásadních vojenských úspěchů wehrmachtu na všech světových stranách. Heydrichův překvapivý konec na prahu Nové Evropy, budované nacisty za pomoci árijské nadřazenosti a genocidních zločinů proti lidskosti, vedl nacistické předáky k procitnutí i k obavám, jež je však zároveň inspirovaly k dalším násilnostem. Vykonavatelé atentátu však věřili, že otevírají cestu k následování, cestu vedoucí k porážce nacistického systému. Kniha nepředkládá jen fakta, ale především otevírá vztahové souvislosti, odehrávající se současně a zároveň si uchovávající svou autonomnost.

The reign of the acting Reich Protector Renhard Heydrich in the Czech lands, although only eight months long, was, is and will probably remain the most frequent topic of both Protectorate history and Czech domestic and Czechoslovak foreign anti-Nazi resistance. But it will also remain a unique part of European resistance during World War II, as Heydrich's death on June 4, 1942 unexpectedly drove a wedge into the Wehrmacht's major military accomplishments in all directions of world. Heydrich's surprising demise on the doorstep of a New Europe built by the Nazis with the help of Aryan supremacy and genocidal crimes against humanity led Nazi leaders to both awakening and fear, but also inspired them to further violence. The perpetrators of the assassination, however, believed they were opening a path to follow, a path leading to the defeat of the Nazi system. The book presents not only facts, but above all opens up a relational context, unfolding simultaneously while maintaining its autonomy.
