    A particle beam transport method and a complete system used for the laser-driven electron FLASH radiation therapy is provided. A beam of particles is delivered from a laser driven accelerator and to the target (for treatment of patients) using a tuneable active plasma lens. ln one embodiment, the system includes an active plasma lens as a beam focusing element that transport the beam at tixed energy to a point where the constant energy beam can be moditied for use in radiation treatment. The size of the electron beam at the target depending on the electron beam energy and electron beam divergence is controlled by the tuneable strength of the plasma lens. Only one lens, placed behind of the LPA electron source, is needed to focus the electron beam in both horizontal and vertical planes, which allows to develop extremely compact irradiation system for radiation therapy.
