Plasma jet sputtering is a convenient method for preparing catalysts supported on stainless steel meshes. Such catalysts are particularly suitable for processes carried out at high space velocities. One of them is the catalytic total oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOC), an economically feasible and environmentally friendly method of reducing VOC emissions. Mixed oxides are efficient catalysts in oxidation of VOC. Cobalt oxide-based catalysts in combination with Mn oxides are particularly active. However, cobalt compounds are among the strategic materials and are expensive. Therefore, we have
attempted to investigate new oxidation catalysts based on nickel oxide in combination with other transition metal oxides. In this contribution, we have decided to study properties and oxidation activity of Ni-Cu mixed oxides prepared by hollow cathode plasma jet sputtering, as both metals are easily accessible and plasma jet sputtering can be realized on a large scale.
