Food waste is a significant social, environmental and economic problem which is frequently overlooked. It is also a problem which every individual’s behaviour can help to resolve. Therefore, in my talk I would like to look at the problem of food waste in relation to the environment and focus on individuals and households. According to what do people shop for food? Do people think about the impact that the production of the food they buy and consume has on the environment? Do eating patterns relate to people’s environmental thinking? What activities with regard to the environment do people perform in households? Do people buy organic food? These are just some of the questions I will be answering in my talk. The results are based on data from representative research called Food 2021 carried out as part of the research programme Strategy AV21 – Food for the Future.
