Studie představuje historika Josefa Válku jako publicistu na stránkách významné brněnské kulturní revue Host do domu, kde se v letech 1964–1970 zařadil mezi pravidelné přispěvatele a v posledních letech její existence se stal i členem redakce. Válka zde prokázal, že dokáže složité historiografické problémy srozumitelně a atraktivně tlumočit širšímu publiku. Z příspěvků pro časopis Host do domu vyvstávají dvě bytostné intence Válkova myšlení o dějinách – potřeba celistvého pohledu na historii a hledání jejího smyslu.

The study presents historian Josef Válka as a collaborator of the Brno cultural review, Host do domu [Guest in the House]. Válka was a regular contributor from 1964 to 1970 and eventually became a member of the editorial board. In his journalistic activities, Válka demonstrated that he could explain complex historiographical issues in a comprehensible, appealing manner to a wider audience. Two specific aspects of Válka’s thinking about history are evident from his contributions to Host do domu – the need for a holistic view of history and the search for the meaning of history.
