The role of Slavism in the past of the Czech nation is increasingly underestimated,
or even downplayed as something insignificant, or the connotations
of certain extremism are ascribed to it. If it is currently monitored, then its
importance for the formation of the modern Czech nation in the 19th century
is recognized to some extent, but for the period of interwar Czechoslovakia it
is described only as something purposeful, to some extent dangerous, opening
“windows” to the Russian (Soviet) influence. The aim of the performance
is therefore to present Slavism as a set of views and ideas that played an
important role in the constitution of the Czechoslovak state as well as in
its restoration after World War II. The emphasis will be placed on a critical
evaluation of the relationship to the Slavism of such personalities as Edvard
Beneš, Vladimír Clementis or Zdeněk Nejedlý with an indication of the benefits
of professional Slavonic studies, especially historical Slavonic studies (Jan Slavík, Josef Macůrek).
