Ujgurská autonomní oblasti Sin-ťiang (zvaná též Východní nebo Čínský Turkestán) je strategicky položeným a surovinově bohatým severozápadním pohraničím Číny. Od roku 2016 tam vládnoucí Komunistická strana Čína pod vedením generálního tajemníka Si Ťin-pchinga zesílila dosavadní útlak Ujgurů, Kazachů a dalších původních muslimských národností. Vzhledem k dění jinde v Čínské lidové republice i k jejímu vzestupu na mezinárodní scéně je situace v Sin-ťiangu důležitým tématem mezinárodní i domácí politiky.

The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (also called East or Chinese Turkestan) is a strategically located and resource-rich northwestern border region of China. Since 2016, the ruling Chinese Communist Party, under General Secretary Xi Jinping, has intensified the existing oppression of Uyghurs, Kazakhs and other indigenous Muslim nationalities. Given what is happening elsewhere in the People's Republic of China and its rise on the international stage, the situation in Xinjiang is a critical issue in international and domestic politics.
