The Budeč stronghold is considered to be one of the best investigated archeological sites in the Czech Republic. However, a significant part of the archeological sources from the past extensive excavations remained unprocessed or deserve revisions. The paper presents results of recent revision research of selected archival sources - part of author's PhD research. The revision research included critical reading the archival documentation, spatial data processing in GIS and modern geodetic surveys. The results shifted the general interpretation of the Budeč stronghold from “administrative centre and a temporal residence of ducal family” to “Christianization center of the early medieval Přemyslid state”. The paper also presents a proposal for the new research project on utilisation of archival sources for future research of the site.
