This study deals with soil mosaics visible from aerial photographs on agricultural lands which are not captured in the Complex Soil Survey (CSS) maps from the 1970s. Fifty localities in Czechia were chosen to study these mosaics. Attention is paid to the development, places of occurrence and the shape of the mosaic. Here we propose a classification of different soil mosaics created by using freely available data. The classification consists of three groups which furthermore contains categories defined by the main causes. Not all sites are formed only by one category. The mosaic is often composed of several categories, and the resulting shape is the sum of many processes. The relationship between shape and the development was analysed by the fractal dimension analysis using the Minkowski-Boulingad method. This approach did not bring sufficient results and the relationship could not be proved.
