We aimed to determine sufficient temperature for the removal of frequently occurring organic pollutants in the sludge. The results show that substances such as PFASs, PCBs, PAHs, pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, or hormones are sufficiently removed at a temperature higher than 600 °C, confirmed both on the laboratory and application scales. Such sludge chars, formed at temperatures above 600 °C from the sludge with low heavy metal content, no longer pose a risk to the environment compared to sludge. Properly operated pyrolysis units are part of the sewage sludge treatment chain, especially in areas with smaller sludge production.
