This article summarizes the diverse factors that contribute to the causes and triggers of volcanic mass-movements. It describes the main predisposing and preparatory factors contributing to volcano instability. Unique types of volcanic mass-movements (debris avalanches and lahars) are presented in more detail with the relevant triggering factors. Consequently, deep-seated volcanic landslides (slumps) are shown. Finally, peculiarities of mass-movements in formerly active volcanic regions are presented.
