Crossing boundaries and exploring new geographic areas has driven explorers and scientists to enter and describe new regions, discover unknown places and meet new societies and cultures. However, not only the geographic exploration is the essence of academic work. In an everyday effort, we aim to contribute to a better understanding of the world and its structures by crossing boundaries marked by state borderlines and of disciplines, cultures, methodologies, and stereotypes and perspectives. The authors of the contributions to this book are bound together by the subject of Tibetan and Himalayas Studies. Each chapter presents a unique viewpoint, approach, and a crossing of a scientific boundary to broaden our understanding of the region encapsulated by the highest mountains of our planet.
