A functional sample representing a microfluidic flow cell for use in a variety of sensing formats has been developed. These flow cells are fabricated via low- cost 3D printing methods, and are compatible with surface sensors based on both QCM and SPR methods. These flow cells have several characteristics exceeding those that are commercially available, including increased analyte transport and sensor performance, increased functionality (passive fluidic valving and active temperature control), and reduced cost of fabrication. We demonstrate that these functional samples can be used directly with several commercial QCM and SPR instruments.
