The chapter summarizes older views on the origin of luxury jewellery in Great Moravia and how this issue appears in the light of recent research. This jewellery is found already in the oldest women's graves dated to the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries. According to the author, fashion impulses from the Eastern Mediterranean played a major role at the beginning of its production.
