The presented research is motivated by the necessity to simulate a component material response under laser shock peening (LSP) conditions using the finite volume method (FVM) as implemented in the OpenFOAM library. LSP is an innovative surface treatment for strenghtening metallic materials. Modeling LSP comprises simulation of a material dynamic response to a high-intensity pressure pulse applied over a finite area of the component . Thus, a physically accurate implementation of the traction boundary condition is of utmost importance.
