In Mitteleuropa spielten ab dem 15. Jahrhundert Werkstätten aus dem bayerisch-österreichischen Raum bei der Herstellung von Grabmälern eine wichtige Rolle, wobei das Zentrum der Steinbildhauerwerkstätten in Passau lag. Eine bedeutende Anzahl böhmischer Auftraggeber aus den katholischen Gebieten Böhmens wandte sich dem nahen bayerisch-österreichischen Donauraum zu, sowohl hinsichtlich des Materials für Grabmäler, als auch der künstlerischen Form. Einen Grabstein dieser Provenienz oder zumindest im „Passauer Stil“ zu besitzen, war eines der Symbole gesellschaftlichen Prestiges. Ein beliebtes Material für die Skulpturen im Gebiet Süd- und Westböhmens war Marmor aus den Adneter Steinbrüchen. Es wurde offenbar auch in größerem Umfang gehandelt, entweder bereits in Form eines in mehreren Werkstätten im bayerisch-österreichischen Raum gefertigten Grabmals, gelieferten auf Bestellung nach Böhmen, oder als Rohmaterial aus dem Salzburger Land für weitere Bearbeitung. Archivquellen und petrographische Analysen ausgewählter Grabsteine belegen den umfangreichen Handel mit Stein sowie mit fertigen Grabsteinen aus dem bayerisch-österreichischen Raum im spätmittelalterlichen Böhmen und belegen die Herkunft des bildhauerischen Materials aus den Adneter Steinbrüchen. Die hier vorgestellten Grabsteine werden sowohl aus kunsthistorischer als auch aus epigraphischer Sicht untersucht.

In Central Europe, workshops from the Bavarian-Austrian region played an important role in the production of sepulchral works from the 15th century onwards, with the centre of stone sculpture workshops being in Passau. A significant number of Bohemian clients from the Catholic areas of Bohemia turned to the nearby Bavarian-Austrian Danube region in terms of both the material of the tombs and the artistic form. Owning a gravestone of this provenance or at least in the „Passau style“ was one of the symbols of a social prestige. A popular material for the sculptures in the area of south and west Bohemia was marble from the Adnet quarries. It was apparently also traded on a larger scale, either already worked out in the form of a finished tomb in a number of workshops in the Bavarian-Austrian region and delivered to Bohemia on order, or delivered from the Salzburg region as a raw material for further processing. Sources in the archives and petrographic analyses of selected gravestones testify to the trade in stone as well as finished gravestones from the Bavarian-Austrian region in late medieval Bohemia on a larger scale, proving that the sculptural material originated from the Adnet quarries. The gravestones presented here are examined from both an art-historical and epigraphical point of view.
