The conference aimed to explore the application of human rights instruments in the protection against negative impacts of climate change. It covered the interlinkages between human rights and climate change, and possible barriers to using the rights-based approach to climate protection and their solutions. The objective of the conference four panel sessions was to examine the theoretical foundations for linking human rights and the climate, the human rights-based climate litigation, the re-interpretation of traditional human rights to cover climate risks, and the human rights aspects of climate justice in transition and decarbonisation policies.
Human Rights and Climate Change: A Short Introduction
The presentation introduced the fundamentals of the interlinkages between human rights and climate change. In the first part, it reflected on why climate change consequences are at the same time a human rights problem and why we need a human rights based climate litigation. In the second part, it summarized the first Czech climate litigation and its human rights arguments.
