Vladimir Levin is a leading Israeli historian, and since 2011, he has been the director of the Center for Jewish Art at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. At the Center for Jewish Art, he mainly deals with research and documentation of synagogues, cemeteries and Jewish ritual objects. The great success of the Center is the Bezalel Narkiss Index of Jewish Art which now includes c. 340,000 images of objects belonging to the field of Jewish visual culture.
