Thermal plasma processing of materials is a diversified field which has been considered as one of the efficient, active, attractive technologies on an industrial and commercial basis in a broad range of applications ranging from spray coating towards zero waste concept. In this scenario, the thermal plasma method is discussed that falls into the category of high temperature processing of materials. A single step process facilitates direct reduction of precursors to the final product without waste material. The thermal plasma process has a wide contribution in various areas such as spray coatings, metal extraction, destruction of hazardous waste, mineral processing and nanoparticle synthesis in laboratory and industrial sectors. Thermal plasma technology offers a rapid process that provides cleaner technology, free of contamination, with higher purity in the end products. A review of thermal plasma processing of materials and its application towards high temperature technology is presented.
