Naše lesy a s nimi i krajina se skokově mění. Změny klimatu a kůrovcová kalamita jen podtrhují problematický vývoj lesů v posledních dvou stoletích. Predikcejejich budoucího vývoje naznačují zásadní redukci zastoupení smrku. Je opravdu potřeba zásadně omezovat smrk v našich lesích a nahradit ho jinýmidřevinami? Cílem článku není nalezení černobílé odpovědi na otázku, zda smrk pěstovat, či ne, protože problém rozpadu dnešních jehličnatých lesů je komplexní. Vliv klimatu, stanovištních podmínek, struktury lesů, lesního hospodaření, ale třeba i degradace půd je třeba důkladně vyhodnotit. Navíc tato kalamita již není problémem pouze lesnickým, ale veřejným. Vlivem současných událostí začíná být společenský význam lesa vnímán širokou veřejností jakodůležitá, nebo dokonce klíčová hodnota. Tímto článkem chceme upozornit na problematiku pěstování smrku v širších souvislostech.

Our forests and with them the landscape are changing dramatically. Climate change and the bark beetle calamity only underline the problematic development of forests in the last two centuries. Prediction their future development suggest a substantial reduction in the proportion of spruce. There is a real need to fundamentally reduce spruce in our forests and replace it with others woody plants? The aim of the article is not to find a black-and-white answer to the question of whether to grow spruce or not, because the problem of the decay of today's coniferous forests is complex. The impact of climate, habitat conditions, forest structure, forest management, but also soil degradation must be thoroughly evaluated. Moreover, this calamity is no longer just a forestry problem, but a public one. Due to current events, the social significance of the forest is beginning to be perceived by the general public as important or even key value. With this article, we want to draw attention to the issue of spruce growing in a broader context.
