Mesoporous CeO2-TiO2 and ZrO2-TiO2 composites were synthesized by template-assisted hydrothermal technique. CuO was supported on the obtained materials using chemisorption-hydrolysis (CH) and incipient wetness impregnation (WI) procedures. The samples were characterized by nitrogen physisorption, XRD, UV-Vis, Raman and TPR with hydrogen. The catalytic behaviour of the obtained materials was studied in methanol decomposition as hydrogen carrier. All ternary materials exhibit higher dispersion, well developed specific surface area, pore volume and improved reducibility as compared their binary analogues and this was more pronounced for the samples prepared by the CH technique. It was assumed that the improved catalytic behavior of the composites in methanol decomposition is related to the formation of complex highly active Cu-Zr(Ce)-Ti „interface layer“ where the electron transfer is facilitated and this can be controlled by the samples composition. The appearance of maximum in most of the conversion curves indicates significant changes with the catalysts during the catalytic test.
