Cílem této studie je vytvoření předpokladů pro systematický výzkum pokroku v autonomizaci umění v české kultuře. Specializovaná literatura z velké části odráží výsledky tohoto procesu, které byly zarážející v době, kdy se v 90. letech 20. století objevovaly moderní trendy, ale skutečný průběh procesu autonomizace, zejména od 60. do 80. let, ještě nebyl v žádném případě zkoumán detail. Po vymezení pojmu autonomizace umění autor článku odkazuje na sociologický a literárněhistorický výzkum této problematiky ve francouzském prostředí (Pierre Bourdieu a Michael Einfalt) a v této souvislosti zaměřuje pozornost na kritiku jako zdroj, který má zjevně klíčový význam pro získání znalostí o historickém průběhu autonomizace české literatury.

The aim of this text is to create the preconditions for systematic research into the progress of autonomization of art within Czech culture. Specialist literature for the most part reflects the results of this process, which were striking during the time that modern trends were emerging in the 1890s, but the actual course of the autonomization process particularly from the 1860s to the 1880s has not yet been examined in any detail. After defining the concept of the autonomization of art, the author of the article refers to sociological and literary history research into this issue in the French milieu (Pierre Bourdieu and Michael Einfalt), and in this connection he focuses attention on criticism as a source that is obviously of key importance in acquiring a knowledge of the historical course of the autonomization of Czech literature.
