Dnes již historické průvodce z 18., 19. a první poloviny 20. století považují odborníci za narativní a literární písemné prameny se zajímavou výpovědní hodnotou. Jako badatelsky zajímavé lze považovat především průvodce Prahou, Krkonošemi s Jizerskými horami a Šumavou z 18. a 19. století. Lze mezi ně zařadit také dílo Karla Herloßsohna Wanderungen durch das Riesengebirge und die Grafschaft Glatz z roku 1840 s cennými postřehy a osobními poznámkami.
