In a recent paper, prof. Wagatsuma reported on intensity ratios of some Pd II emission lines in Ar and Kr glow discharge and in Ar glow discharge and an ICP plasma. In the region between 8.1 and 9.5 eV, these ratios follow a decreasing linear trend in a semi-logarithmic plot, as function of energy of the upper level. This paper offers an explanation of this fact, based on considerations of electron impact excitation of these Pd II levels, at non-LTE conditions.
