In two decades, between 1945 and 1965, the population of Bratislava increased from less than 150,000 to 262,000. In the subsequent years, especially on account of the construction of industrial enterprises, the influx of new residents into the city reached an annual growth of nearly 10,000 people. This situation, accompanied by the return of modernism and a preference for standardized prefabricated panel construction, opened space for the rise of two generations of urban experts, esp. architects and urban planners. The study analysis the roots, extent and results of the power and influence of this specific epistemic community in Bratislava from the late 1950s until the early 1970s.
