Pyrobitumens are natural bituminous substances mostly insoluble in organic solvents as a result of molecular crosslinking. Bituminous crack fillings, lenses, and veins from Permian Rudník member sedimentary rocks in Krkonoše Piedmont Basin may locally contain significant amounts of uranium. The uranium is found in several microns to tens of micron size uraninite grains encapsulated within the pyrobitumen (anthraxolite) matrix. Due to this, the radiogenic system appears to be well preserved for radiometric age determination of the uranium mineralization.
