This review article summarizes our results from the studies of effects of nanoparticles on functions of cells of the immune system. We demonstrated that a long-term inhalation of coper oxide or zinc oxide nanoparticles negatively influences the composition of the major leucocyte populations in the spleen and modifies the reactivity of cels of the innate and adaptive immune system. However, the effects of nanoparticles strongly depend on the type of particles and on the duration of inhalation.
