Kniha je kolektivní monografií věnovanou tématu morálních mezí trhu – u jakého typu statků či sociálních praktik a z jakých důvodů je vhodné využívat pro jejich alokaci trhu a kdy a z jakých důvodů to naopak vhodné není. První kapitolu tvoří hlavní příspěvek monografie od předního politického filosofa Michaela Sandela, který obhajuje tezi, že trhy mají mít určité morální limity. Na tento příspěvek pak reaguje devět významných současných filosofů, ekonomů či teologů, kteří se ve svých postojích vůči němu liší – od zásadního souhlasu, přes částečné výhrady a doplnění, až po radikální odmítnutí. Kniha tak přehledně mapuje a seznamuje čtenáře nejen s významným teoretickým, ekonomicko-etickým problémem, ale v dnešní době i společensky velmi aktuálním.

The book is a collective monograph devoted to the topic of the moral limits of the market - where, and for what type of goods or social practices and for what reasons it is appropriate to use market for their allocation and when and for what reasons it is not appropriate. The first chapter is the main contribution of a monograph by the leading political philosopher Michael Sandel, which defends the thesis that markets have certain moral limits. Then nine leading contemporary philosophers, economists and theologians respond to his contribution, They differ in their attitudes to his contribution - from fundamental agreement, through partial reservations, to radical rejection. The book clearly maps and acquaints the reader not only with a theoretical, economic-ethical problem, but nowadays also with the very socially current issue.
