The chapter reviews the measurement principles used for Barkhausen noise characterization. It starts from a historical overview, but a strong accent is made on the current state of the art in the field. The review covers the main directions of modern research and fundamental commercial solutions. Different methods of the sample magnetization (solenoid, directly wound driving coil, magnetizing yoke and permanent magnets) and of the Barkhausen noise detection (sample-wrapping and surface-mounted coils, reading heads) are described in detail. Special attention is paid to the questions of data repeatability and of unification of the measurement techniques. Methods of direct field determination and of magnetization waveform control are proposed to stabilize the measurement results.
