Příspěvek se zabývá historií a vývojem poznatků souvisejících s tzv. krizí středního věku (KSV). Ve stati jsou představeny hlavní studie, jejichž výsledky koncept krize středního věku podporují, a výzkumy, které přinášejí spíše opačné stanovisko. Přínosem koncepce KSV je ale přinejmenším to, že obrátila pozornost na období celoživotního vývoje, jež bylo výzkumníky spíše opomíjeno.

The contribution deals with the history and development of knowledge related to the socalled midlife crisis. The article presents the main studies, the results of which support the concept of the midlife crisis, and investigations that bring a rather opposite view. The benefit of the midlife crisis concept, however, is at least that it has turned an attention of researchers to a period of lifelong development that has been rather neglected.
