Oddělení mikrofotoniky využívá všech základních vlastností fotonů k posouvání hranic našeho poznání a technologií v oblasti mikrosvěta. Tým komplexní fotoniky kombinuje sofistikovanou metodu modulace světla šířícího se multimódovými vlákny s pkročilými metodami optické mikroskopie a spektroskopie do podoby mikroendoskopu o tloušťce lidského vlasu, kterým relativně šetrně zobrazuje aktivity jednotlivých buněk v mozku živých zvířat.

The Department of Microphotonics (Institute of Scientific Instruments, The Czech Academy of Sciences) uses all the basic properties of photons to push the boundaries of our knowledge and technology in the microworld. The levitation photonics team uses the momentum of photons to act on material objects that can be spatially held in a laser beam even in a high vacuum, to take away their kinetic energy and bring their behavior closer to the world of quantum mechanics. The biophotonics and optofluidics team uses changes in photon energy during scattering to non-destructively characterize microorganisms )bacteria, algae, yeast) and identify changes in chemical processes in living microorganisms due to antibiotics, viruses or environmental stress. The team of complex photonics combines sophisticated methods of modulating light propagating through multimode fibers with advanced methods of optical microscopy and spectroscopy in the form of a microendoscope with the thickness of a human hair, which relatively gently displays the activities of individual cells in the brains of living animals.
