The study deals with lending business of Bohemian lower nobility in the 16th century on the example of one of the pioneers of systematic financial transactions, Petr Doudlebský of Doudleby (d. 1550). This knight multiplied his property thanks to investments in loans, having constantly increased their volume by repeatedly lending all available financial means including the interest revenue. Rather than as an isolated phenomenon, Petr’s lending investments have been studied with regard to his origin, family ties and personal life, as they conditioned his business to a considerable extent.
