Severočeské město Doksy se společně se svou osadou Staré Splavy a přilehlým Velkým rybníkem – dnes Máchovým jezerem – přeměňovaly na přelomu 19. a 20. století ve významnou turistickou oblast. Aby do města přijelo co nejvíce návštěvníků, byly ve velkém nákladu produkovány propagační materiály, jejichž autoři pomocí textů a obrázků konstruovali velmi přitažlivý image města Doksy. V této studii je analýzou inzerátů, průvodců, prospektů a pohlednic rozlišeno několik konstantních motivů, z nichž dokský image sestával od počátku 20. století až do 40. let. Zároveň je s přihlédnutím k údajům v kronikách a archivních pramenech poukázáno na rozdíl mezi idealizovaným imagem a problematickou, maloměstskou realitou Doks.

A north-Bohemian town Doksy became, together with its neighbouring settlement Staré Splavy and the adjacent lake Velký Rybník (today Máchovo jezero), an important tourist resort at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In order to attract as many visitors as possible, promotional leaflets were issued in large quantities drawing, through texts and pictures, an appealing image of the town. The paper distinguishes, based on analysis of advertisements, guides, prospectuses and postcards, several permanent motives that made for Doksy image from the beginning of the 20th century to 1940s. At the same time, the study points out, using various data from town chronicles and archival documents, the difference between the ideal image and the reality of a small town milieu in Doksy.
