Biodegradable implants can offer a substantial improvementin the quality of life of patients that otherwise would need a sec-ond surgery to remove the implant. To achieve this, we need tofully understand the corrosion mechanisms and degradation ofthe implant materials that could be used for various clinicalapplications. Magnesium is an ideal material in terms ofin vivodegradation, especially due to its natural occurrence in thehuman body.
