Thermostimulated luminescence properties (TSL) of sintered alumina were investigated. The main properties of ceramics of the type Lucalox-CS, based on anion-defective alumina, have been investigated in detail. TSL, as a function of irradiated doses, shows maximum values with centered peaks at T = 63, 148, 291 and 347 degrees C. The respective absorption band of the manganese admixture was determined and the corresponding maximum TSL, the activation energies, and the frequency factors were calculated too. The TSL bleaching mechanism in alumina is associated with the temperature dependence of the probability of trapping in deep traps. This may be due to thermal ionization of excited states. The obtained results confirm the dependence on irradiated doses, temperature and structure of the material. This material could be used either as a substrate for the preparation of thin layers because of its strength, high thermal and chemical stability, high electrical resistance and transparency or as a dosimeter.
